Mastering Fortnite Basics
This section will focus on the early stages of the game before the second circle has closed. In the current meta of Fortnite, getting to the end game is the most important part of the match if your goal is to win, and a lot of that begins with your drop. Landing in the right area on the map can ensure that you get enough materials and loot to all but guarantee you a spot in the late game. A good landing spot can vary depending on your play style, but as a general rule, you usually want to land at a location with a few buildings and an above average amount of wood pallets and/or stone stacks. This way, you can exit the area with a decent amount of loot and enough building materials to last you the entire game. You can check out my other article on recommended landing spots which will be updated for season 6 in the coming weeks. After deciding on an area to drop in, the next objective is to obtain suitable loot. This includes a shotgun, a utility item whether it be dynamite, stinks, or a boogie bomb, healing items, an AR of any rarity, and an SMG. The reason behind this loadout is that in the current state of the meta, an SMG is almost a necessity and they can only be used effectively by replacing a shotgun. Due to their recent buff, they can be a deadly weapon when used to spray a player's build and follow up with an SMG, meaning that shotguns are nearly obsolete. An SMG is also the best weapon to use in a spraying match against an opposing player with an SMG, so the general purpose of an early game fight is to get in front of or behind an opponent's build and completely spray him until the structures break, leaving him vulnerable for a couple shotgun shots. This is why it is now more effective to opt out of using a higher rarity shotgun and instead replace it with an SMG as your go-to spray weapon.
